For whom (wei le shei)
This is another of the newer generation of Red Song that was originally popularised by祖海. Here is 卓依婷 (Timi Zhuo) version that was recorder in 2003:
You have soaked the backs of our troops with sweat.
I do not know who you are. But I know who you are for.
For whom, for the livelihood of your brothers, for the returns of Spring and geese.
Embracing warm blood, I sing of youth without regret. Look upon the horizon and know not when my ally would return.
Who are you? For whom? My ally, when will you return?
Who are you? For whom? My brothers and sisters do not burst into tears.
Who is the most beautiful, who is the most weary, my village folks, my ally, my brothers and sisters.
